From Director of School Administration

Dear CMS Community,

 In Term 1, staff met to discuss goals for the year and indeed career goals. We have some whole school overarching goals including:

  •         Collegial understanding or Montessori Philosophy and Pedagogy
  •         Literacy and Numeracy Outcomes
  •         Collaboration and Communication

These staff goals were derived at the beginning of this year as areas we as a whole staff could improve upon. By the start of Term 3, we were half way through the year and took the opportunity to meet again to ensure everyone is on track with individual goals. This process is important for our Directors as there is a verification process required of teachers to ensure continued teacher registration through the Teacher Quality Institute (TQI). To be successful with meeting goals, staff often require further learning or refresher training. Our school supports staff to realise their goals. We were fortunate to welcome Polli Soholt (3 to 6 Montessori trainer) earlier this year to guide staff and parents with aspects of Montessori education for our Cycle 1 students.

Greg MacDonald (6 to 9 Montessori trainer) was equally welcomed as he too worked with our community. Greg spent three full days supporting our Cycle 2 and 3 Directors. He observed, provided feedback, chatted to parents and administration and delivered a very interesting parent education evening. His passion for the Montessori materials and understanding of the special characteristics of the primary aged child was a lovely sharing experience for those who attended the evening. Greg is an inspiration for us all in our Montessori practice as staff and parents. We will continue the relationship with Greg who has offered to continue observations and conversations through Skype.

I was really pleased when requested to speak for Communities@work at an Educational Leader Forum last week. It was fun for me and interesting to the audience as our context is quite different to other Early Childhood settings. The audience were interested to discover how we had met Exceeding Standards and asked if we had to make modifications to fit in with the National Quality Standards. The Early Years Learning Framework allows for our differences as it, from the Cycle 1 Directors perspective is an excellent framework. It was certainly nice to network in the community outside our Montessori/Independent Schools world.

We were delighted when one of the applications that we received for an advertised position in our Admin team was from Brigid Lombard.  Some of you will already know Brigid as her family have been involved with the school for many years. We welcome her wide of variety of skills and experience in the role of Enrolment Officer.
