Message from Rael – Term 4

Dear CMS Community,

Welcome to Term 4! After what, I hope, was a wonderful and restful break for all, we’ve had a great start, and have hit the ground running, with children straight back to learning in our classrooms. I hope that everyone has enjoyed Week 1.

We were delighted to be able to provide food for children throughout the holiday program, and will continue to do so for all holiday periods moving forward. As well as including the activities in the daily fee, I hope that this extra value made a difference for you all. For the summer break, we’re working to be able to increase the number of children being able to attend – more information will follow.

We’re in the process of upgrading/replacing our school telephone system. If you have been having trouble getting through to the office by phone in recent times or have ever had to wait on hold listening to an excruciating piped tune, you will be super happy! The current phone system was brought here from the previous campus in 2004 and is on its last legs. The other important aspect is that this system will aid in improving our evacuation and lockdown procedures.

The weekend 26th/27th October, we’ll again be exhibiting at the Oh Baby! Baby Expo, being held at Thoroughbred Park.   If you know anyone with small children please let them know, we’d love as many people as possible to visit. As last year, we will create an interactive set up as a Parent/Toddler classroom. Come and say hello!

I hope that everyone enjoyed the breakfast in Week 9 last term. We love doing that sort of thing, and we enjoyed it so much in fact, that we’re going to do it again! Make a note in your diaries for the morning of Friday 13 December (you’ll be a little bit late to work…)

There are some other ‘save the date’ events to make a note of… On Friday 7 February, we’ll be holding a Welcome Back picnic…bring your dinner in picnic form and catch up with all the wonderful people you’ve not seen for the summer, along with some live music; it should be fun! Also mark Thursday 9 April…it’s the last day of Term 1 next year…it is definitely NOT going to rain and so we’ll have Colour Run, Disco, BBQ and Movie Night on this day. Of course, there’ll be more information to come early next year.

The Schoolstream app has been available to our parents since 2016 with some mixed success. Over that time, we’ve encountered a series of problems and issues with it and whilst the absence and excursion forms have been useful to some, on the whole we don’t believe the app is a good fit for our school or for the needs of our community. We’ve decided to discontinue this and will explore other, more suitable, options next year.  In the meantime, for those who enjoy the convenience of the forms, remember you can also access them on our website here – and

You may have noticed that our calendar has a Family Fun Day scheduled for Saturday 2 November. Our hope was that this could be the first event organised by a newly formed CMS Parent and Friends Association. We’re very grateful to all those parents who’ve volunteered their time to help get it happening, though it’s turned out that it’s taking a little while longer to get established than hoped (there will be further communication on this next week).

The primary children and staff will be getting together to farewell our graduates on the last day of term (Friday 13 December). The Graduate ceremony will be followed by a disco for all children, finishing up at 3pm so everyone can get away to begin their summer holidays. You are most welcome, and actually expected, to come along and dance with your children.

Finally, don’t forget that Wednesday next week sees the Board Open Session at 6.30pm in Gumnut. All are welcome, we look forward to seeing you.

As always, please don’t hesitate to be in touch should you need anything or have any queries.

Kindest regards,

Rael Matthews
Acting Principal
